Tektites are naturally occurring glass objects formed when meteorite impacts superheat terrestrial rock to the point of melting and ejection. The molten material solidifies in flight, producing the characteristic dark, glassy, pitted surface. They are not meteorites themselves — they are Earth rock transformed by the energy of an extraterrestrial impact. Most tektites originate from a handful of known impact events; these are sourced from Southeast Asia. Their origin makes them genuinely unusual in any crystal collection.
