Optical Calcite — also known as Iceland Spar — is a transparent variety of calcite with unusual light-refracting properties. Viking sailors are believed to have used it as a "sunstone" to locate the sun on overcast days, making it historically significant as a navigational tool. In crystal tradition it is associated with clarity, perspective, and the third eye chakra.
